People with diverticulitis should eat food that are high in fiber. Fruits and vegetables like apples, pears, peaches, carrots, broccoli, and asparagus are great. Whole grain items like brown rice and bran flakes are safe to eat as well. Those foods are good because it will make the stool easier to pass therefore lessening the chances of infection.
Have your grandfather stay away of anything that has a lot of seeds or is seed like such as popcorn, pumpkin, strawberries, poppyseeds, corn, and so on. Those types of foods can cause infection and/or inflammation.
For a more in-deph look at the diet here is the link of some very useful information for your grandfather.
Hope everything works out!
Asparagus, Brocolli, Brussel Sprouts, Cabbage, Calliflower, Carrots, Spinach, Tomato, Summer Squash, Romain lettuce, Winter Squash, Baked Beans, Kidney Beans, Lima Beans, Potatoes, Bread, Cereal, Oatmeal, White rice, Brown Rice, Apples, Peaches, Tangerines, and Pears to name the best. My grandmother has it too and we have to help her eat right also. I will also give you this great site where I found all the info. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!!!!!
